Family Dysfunction Takes Many Forms
Adults who grew up in dysfunctional family environments, whether the dysfunction was due to alcoholism, addiction or some other illness often share a similar set of traits. Do you often find yourself criticizing your own actions harshly? Do you try to manage the reactions of others? Do you sense that you have trouble connecting with your emotions, or find yourself feeling numb during difficult events? These are just some of the difficulties that can arise from growing up in an environment that was turbulent, not nurturing, or neglectful of your needs as a child during crucial stages of your emotional development. I have worked with many clients to help them face a difficult past, evolve as emotionally mature adults and form lasting, healthy relationships with others.
